Pinkfong, the creator of the globally popular “Baby Shark” videos, has been awarded YouTube’s Ruby Play button for amassing more than 50 million subscribers, the South Korean company announced Thursday.

The Ruby Play button, which is awarded to YouTubers with over 50 million subscribers, is custom-made instead of the usual plate design for lower milestones. Pinkfong, which produces animated films and music videos featuring various children’s songs, received an award in the shape of a column of sea waves with a protruding shark fin.

This is the first time a Korean children’s YouTube channel has received this honor, according to SmartStudy, the company behind Pinkfong. K-pop sensations BTS and Blackpink have also gained over 50 million subscribers on their YouTube channels.

Pinkfong received the Diamond Play Button, awarded to channels reaching 10 million subscribers, in August 2018. Subscriber numbers have since grown by 30% annually, according to SmartStudy.

The English version of Pinkfong’s “Baby Shark Dance,” which became the most-watched video on YouTube with over 7.03 billion views on Nov. 2, has over 9 billion views as of Thursday.

“We are currently creating an animated film using the Baby Shark character with Nickelodeon, the world’s largest children’s entertainment channel. We are also producing the second anime series and boosting content for family viewers,” an official from SmartStudy said.
